LEVY HASKELL, Fred A(bbott) (1949- )

U.S. fan more-or-less active since 1962. Always a Minneapolis fan, but spent several years (1977-1982) travelling around the U.S., working temp and staying with fen. Fan Guest of Honor at BYOBCon (1976, Kansas City, Missouri), LepreCon (1978, Phoenix, Arizona), Marcon (1979, Columbus, Ohio), Archon (1983, St. Louis, Missouri), Hatcon (1985?, Danbury, Connecticut), Minicon (1987, Minneapolis, Minnesota), and Congenial (1993, Madison, Wisconsin). Toastmaster at Tzarkon (1984, St. Louis, Missouri). One of the Floundering Fathers (1966; with Frank Stodolka, Jim Young, Ken Fletcher, and Nate Bucklin) and Official Happy Deadwood of the Minnesota Science Fiction Society, Inc. (Minn-StF). First marriage to Karen Marie Johnson Haskell, 1969-1973. Once-and-future marriage to Susan B. Levy Haskell, 1989. Daughter Gavi (Gavriella Chava) Levy Haskell, born 1992.

NB. Until June, 1989, Fred Haskell; changed last name to Levy Haskell on marriage to Susan Levy in 1989.

First Contact: The Rick Norwood letter in Strange Adventures number 143 caused me to write, and eventually to join the N3F in December, 1962.
First Con: NyCon3 (25th World Science Fiction Convention), New York City, September, 1967.
Concoms:
Minicon 1, Minneapolis, January, 1968.
Actually, Jim Young did nearly everything, but the rest of us did a few odd bits.
Minicon 2, Minneapolis, April, 1969.
I don't know if I had any official titles, but I worked at Registration for a while, ran the projectors for the showing of Metropolis, and did a bunch of other committee-like odds and ends.
Minicon 3, Minneapolis, April, 1970.
Publications; probably some other bits as well.
Minicons 4 through 33, Twin Cities Area, 1971 - 1998...
I dunno. I've occasionally been Official Happy Deadwood, and I think I've done a bit of this and a bit of that from time-to-time over the years. You know--empty ash trays, make music, fill ice buckets, throw parties, help out here and there--all the usual attending member things. Geesh, do people actually remember this stuff?
Minneapolis in '73.
On the bid committee of the original (i.e., pre-1973) bid.

Avid supporter of the revived bid.
MidAmeriCon (34th World Science Fiction Convention), Kansas City, September, 1976.
Official Photographer.
IguanaCon (36th World Science Fiction Convention), Phoenix, August, 1978.
It says here that they retroactively made me the Official Teddy Bear. Does anybody else remember this? Does it count?
InVention 30, Minneapolis, April, 1982.
Chairman.
Corflu 6, Minneapolis, April, 1989.
Crank (Chairman).
Minicon 34, Minneapolis, Easter weekend, 1999.
Executive Council +.
Fanzines: COMM'L (5 issues, 1964, first few issues co-edited with non-fan school-chums Marc Norman and Sandy Atlas).
Cheap Thrills (2 issues, 1967-1968).
LOVE (9 issues, for APA45 with outside distribution as well, 1967-1969).
RUNE (the Minn-StF Clubzine) (10 issues [numbers 39-48], 1974-1976).
TELOS (uh, 2 issues?, 1980, co-edited with Teresa Nielsen Hayden, Patrick Nielsen Hayden, and Gary Farber).
Apas:
APA45 (1965, 1967-1969).
Minneapa (1972-1982).
NOTE: Since my apazines were part perzine/diary, and since my mailing comments were written so as to be understandable to people who hadn't read the mailing, I tended to mail out extra copies to people. When I joined AZAPA, I ran copies of both zines through both apas, leading to some interesting cross-fertilization.... I think I may have tried this with TAPA as well, with less success.
AZAPA (1976-1978). NOTE: See Minneapa, above.
Oasis (1979-1981).
TAPA (1980-1981). NOTE: See Minneapa, above.
